june photo dump and #RAWTHOUGHTS

A strange month.
Even before it began I saw my childhood hero Mick Foley debut in AEW at Double or Nothing, which was good. I finished No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai in the park from 25th Hour, which amplified a sense of dread that had permeated since I got back from the 6.
I told you in the Toronto trip report not to finish that shit. It’s kind of a short read but you can be short and heavy. Ask Tomohiro Ishii.
I celebrated another year on this Earth by seeing Food and Liquor performed live at the Seaport for its 20th anniversary. I… forgot how much He Say She Say gets me in my feelings. I tried listening to it in the days afterwards and I can’t not cry. I also finally saw one of Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Rooms at the Guggenheim. I’ve been trying to do that for a minute.
Went to a spa down past the cemeteries in Brooklyn to relax for a bit. Unfortunately I didn’t get to beat myself(pause) with eucalyptus. That would have been nice. I did get to stare at a weird Turkish orb though. And I smelled like cedar for seven straight hours.
Saw a Gerhard Richter installation at one of the Zwirners. He was my mom’s favorite artist. The irony of me taking photos of paintings of photos isn’t lost on me.
What else… one of my friends from high school organized a show that had Claire Rousey as a musical guest so I went to that. Actually the person who got me into billy woods got me into her. During the exact same time period in fact. I had no idea what was going on. Which is what I kind of want in any kind of musique concrete adjacent performance so I was satisfied.
I finally get futbol now! I’m disappointed at how many of the African teams got bounced out. I saw Côte d’Ivoire get yeeted by Norway at a Francophone African church on Morningside. It was kinda heartbreaking to watch but the experience of watching it with people from Côte d’Ivoire in a courtyard was great. Maybe one of the best sports watching experiences of my life.
I guess… is there a such thing as being too old to worry about the future? I feel like at this point I should be past it by now but…
gestures emptily at the world
There‘s heat domes, there’s UFC fights on the White House lawn, computers are more expensive because supplies are pledged to data centers that haven’t even been built yet and don’t even have demand, Lebanon is letting Israel do whatever they want in their death throes(the capital escape from this will probably prop up a bubble or two here and if anything will be the undoing of Mamdani and this DSA wave it will be this), the NBA seems to be doing whatever in the wake of the glorious victory of God’s chosen the New York Knickerbockers. A lot of flailing going on.
Kinda wild how you can be smart yet certainty remains elusive. You see the conditions in front of you or you see a set of coincidences that you know are weird and you’re thrown off because theres really no good course of action. So it goes.
Here’s some pictures though!
